With all the tastings this week there was not a significant amount of wine consumed for pleasure but my lovely neighbours kindly shared a bottle of Reillys Dry Land Cabernet Sauvignon 2002.
Wow what a wine, developed nicely and still very much within its drinking window at 17 years old. Reillys Dry Land Cabernet collected the Trophy for Best Wine of Provenance at the 2015 Clare Valley Wine Show. The 2002 vintage provided the first leg of the trio of wines (02, 05, 12).
I do not stock Reillys Wines but on the back of this bottle I definitely recommend them, the Cabernet ages beautifully. This is classic cool climate Cabernet and once again highlights that you don't need to go to Coonawarra or Margaret River to find great ageworth Cabernet.
The 2016 vintage is currently on the Reillys website for $38. I think it presents fantastic value and if you love aged Cabernet this is worth grabbing for drinking in 10+ years time.
Reillys Dry Land Clare Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2002
The Dry Land shows wonderful aromas of Eucalypt, Menthol, dark berries and spices. On the palate is a broad spectrum of flavours, blackcurrant, chocolate, choc-mint and white pepper, all brought together in a big juicy wash of flavour. Integrated but grippy tannins provide a structure that keeps it all together.
I am truly honoured to be allowed to share this wine.
