This wine has ruined me for other Sangioveses and Chiantis. Nothing will be the same again. What this wine offers in terms of texture and flavours – you don’t see in Australian Sangiovese, and have to wait 10 years for in a Chianti and even then…it has to be really good Chianti!
A blend of Sangiovese (92%), Canaiolo Nero, Mammolo, Colorino, all these varietals are used in the traditional Chianti blend. The nose is raspberries, blackberries and mulberries with background notes of pepper, spice, rosewater and strawberries and a hint of tobacco. The nose is really bright and vibrant. The palate is sweet and fresh (in a very good way) full of ripe red fruit and black cherries. Tannins create a fantastic texture and spice notes still waft across the palate. Normally Chianti / Sangiovese presents upfront acids when relatively young, but this wine is seamless and integrated. An absolutely amazing wine.
