Ruby purple in colour, the nose offers sweet plum, vanilla, white pepper, blueberry then blackberry, liquorice and dirt with hints of mulberries and violets floating around. The palate is fresh rich and elegant, loaded with exotic herbs and red fruit flavours – think red cherries, raspberries and satsuma plums. Tannins are so very fine and integrated and balance is achieved with almost juicy acids.
This will live in the cellar for 10 years, but if you are game 15-20 is achievable.
With food...lamb and stronger beef cuts work with this wine. A long braised lamb shank with middle-eastern spices comes to mind as a particularly nice combo. If you are into food trucks, those small hand-made tacos filled with shredded meat, chilli and salsa would be a particularly nice way of having this wine.
To cellar 5-10 years, longer if you like those more mature flavours. It really is gorgeous now but will get more interesting as time rolls by.
