The Vinelea “Malakoff” Syrah 2017: This has to be one of the most intensely deep coloured Syrah I have had in a while…darker than blackberries, again a real nod to the Cote Rotie. The nose is vibrant, a melange of purple fruit, black cherries, vanilla and spice. The palate is rich and intense, mouthfilling riding a wave of vanilla, blueberries, black cherry and chocolate. It evolves on the palate into a truly soft and delicate wine. There is FA evidence of acids and the tannins (sight unseen) only serve to provide structure for the decadent richness. A great wine, will drink well for another ten years but good luck keeping it that long once you open one.
